The RWRD Guide To The Best Coffee In Hackney

Hackney Coffee Guide

East London has a plethora of options when looking for incredible independent coffee spots. Below, we highlight some of our favourite shops around Hackney for you to check out when you’re in the area.

Bright Store

Run by Brightzine, Bright Store is an ethical store serving coffee from The Fields Beneath along with a range of baked vegan treats. Underneath the coffee shop you can visit their lifestyle showroom filled with selected zero-waste essentials plus a variety of handmade and sustainable products.

268 Hackney Road, E2 7SJ

On Friendship + Chairs

Serving coffee from Dark Arts, an East London roaster, On Friendship + Chairs espresso machine is found amongst beautiful furniture, making it the perfect stop when looking for hidden away & unique shops in Hackney. Come for a coffee, leave with some furniture – what’s there not to like?

160 King Henry’s Walk, N1 4NJ

Cafe Melo

After years in the hospitality industry Fred and Zoe have brought us Cafe Melo, a beautiful coffee shop also serving breakfast and lunch. Their beans are from Allpress, with guest beans from various different roasters, so you can always try something different.

103 Shacklewell Lane, E8 2EB

Healthy Stuff

An independent cafe and health food shop selling amazing organic coffee from Climpson and Sons. Healthy Stuff is a Hackney favourite with fresh vegan food to takeaway, plus a range of organic products & eco-refills ensuring you’re well covered on all fronts.

168 Dalston Lane, E8 1NG

SnackBar

Behind the bright colours, Snackbar uses a high tech indoor allotment creating it’s own urban farming hub, meaning they’re able to grow a lot of their own food & produce in the cafe itself. Quirky, Asian inspired brunch spot.

20 Dalston Lane, E8 3AZ

Little Penguin

Newly opened in January, Little Penguin is a play cafe where parents can enjoy a warm cuppa while watching their little ones play in the back room. A great menu with lovely coffee to enjoy at the front area of the cafe, this plant filled oasis is a hidden gem in Dalston.

404 Kingsland Road, E8 4AA

Beechall Coffee Co.

Based inside of Beechhall Joinery, Beechhall Coffee Co. is an independent coffee bar, serving coffee from Nude Coffee Roasters who are based in nearby Spitalfields. Swing by on your way back from Columbia Road Flower Market as the owner loves to see those beautiful bouquets!

332 Hackney Road, E2 7AX

OAT Coffee

Closed for lockdown but one to visit as soon as restrictions are lifted. Based in New Inn Yard, Oat is a plant based cafe run by OAT milk. The food is looked after by the talented Johnnie Collins. Johnnie is working on menus during lockdown, so we’ve been told to keep our eyes peeled for socially distanced dinners and boozy brunches in 2021!

31 New Inn Yard, EC2A 3EY
