Unexpected Perks: How COVID-19 Benefitted the Independent Coffee Industry in the UK
The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly brought numerous challenges and disruptions to the global economy. However,…
Using RWRD, you’re able to discover better coffee & enjoy exclusive offers & discounts. Coffee blogger Ophelia Stähelin, the writer behind Coffee & Stories, did just that this weekend, finding a new independent & grabbing herself a free brew at the same time…
The sun was out today. No rain, for once. Time to go for a walk, grab a coffee, enjoy the day outside. I thought.
Then real life hit me. We are still in a pandemic. We are still in lockdown. And I’ve spent so much money on coffee and cake this week, that I should stay home and just drink my Nespresso coffee. ☹ A sad thought. I couldn’t accept it. So I checked the RWRD app and remembered their e-mail offering me a free coffee.
I opened the app and checked if it was still available. It was indeed! The plan was made. I’d still go outside but won’t pay for a coffee. Sounded like an idea.
Mask and Strava on, I hit the road. It was crowded in the park and I was shocked by the number of people who were not wearing a mask. If you go outside, please put your mask on. The least you can do if you also don’t want to stay at home like me.
It took me about an hour to get to the coffee shop. A little place in the area of Nine Elms. Back in the day when I used to work in Vauxhall, RWRD was showing me this on the map, but I never had the time to search for this hidden place. Today I found it and was served by a very friendly and helpful barista.
The Black Cab Coffee Company is a tiny coffee shop, which seems to be a place for an evening drink as well. I imagine this place changing from a coffee shop during day time into a tiny, hip bar during night time. I can’t wait to find out once socialising is allowed again!
With my free treasure in my cold hands, I made my way back all the way through Battersea Power Station and Battersea Park, until I reached home after a two hours walk with my basic needs (walk and coffee) satisfied.
A Happy Sunday!
